The Happiest Place On Earth
Poor old Ross didn’t have a great day today! He woke up with a splitting headache and then spent the morning throwing up. He had a high fever and was really unwell so we decided to call in the resident doctor (quack)! I asked him on the phone how much it would be for a house call and he said it would be $195. Wow, pretty pricey I thought but I had heard stories so I was sort of expecting that. He arrived as promised, a little Indian man named Dr Pendy, and his medical bag was so stocked up, it looked like he was going on an overseas holiday for 6 months. Boy was he thorough! He took blood pressure, took samples of all sorts of bodily fluids, made Ross roll all over the place for poking and prodding, took temperatures, ph balances and generally gave Ross the good once over. His verdict was food poisoning, which is bad but not quite as bad as a rampant gastro bug that could go through the whole family. He gave Ross a shot in the cheek (bummer!) and some medication to stop him vomiting. He also gave us about 8 different medications for just-in-case scenarios and his total bill (which he ensures us is 100% refundable by our travel insurance provider – fingers crossed!) $595!!! No wonder he was so well-dressed in his pin-striped suit! Rossco has slept for most of the afternoon so we are praying the good doctor knew what he was talking about and that he will be on the mend from the morning. It was such a shame he couldn’t come to Disneyland today.
So with poor Ross at home in bed, we decided to break the day up a bit and spend the morning at Disneyland, come home for lunch and then spend the afternoon at Disney California Adventure. Maisy could hardly hold back her excitement when she came face to face with a couple of real life princesses (Snow White, Aurora and Jasmine) and then to top it off she got to meet Tinkerbell and her sidekick Terrence, down in Pixie Hollow as well! What a day!
We visited Mickey’s House and Minnie’s House and rode the Storybook Canal boats. We also managed to score some early entry tickets and got to ride in Nemo’s Submarines, avoiding the usual one-hour-plus queues. The submarine ride was awesome! I don’t know how they manage to animate under the water but the results are spectacular!
After lunch, Maisy and I stayed back to keep Ross company while Sam, Molly and Tobes went back over to California Disney Adventure, with Ben and Jules and the kids, for an action packed afternoon full of rides and adventure. They loved “Soarin’ Over California”, the simulation ride over the Californian coast and also raved about the Grizzly River Run.
With Ross, sleeping soundly after his shot, Maisy and I met the others around 6.30 and we got ready for the “World Of Colour” show. My mobile isn’t working here and we forgot to make a place to meet so it was an amazing answer to prayer that I found them! Just after I’d prayed, I looked up and Sam was walking straight for me! Very amazing considering the thousands of people there!
Now the “World Of Colour” show had been talked up by a lot of people we’d met and we’d read lots of reviews on the internet so our expectations going in were probably very high. We got the good oil on where to sit so we had the best view and we even came prepared with raincoats because we’d read that you get wet. We’d pre-ordered our dinner boxes online and although the pictures on the internet looked decidedly unappetising, they weren’t as bad as we thought. From the minute the show started, we were all in awe! It sure didn’t disappoint! The lights and water were breathtaking. None of us had ever seen anything like it! If you’re planning to go to Disneyland anytime soon, you’ve got to see this show! It was awesome!
